Ondurdupoordoor

Composition for "The Watergate in scaffolding pipes" for 4 Cardinal Directions

Keimpe de Jong, (1957, Graaf Adolfstraat, Sneek)

You can find so-called tubular bells in the shape of our logo at the entire festival site. These tubes can be played with a hammer and everyone is welcome to produce a melody during the festival!

A special installation has been built at Rabo Plaza, which can be played on four sides. A specific composition has been written for this so that you can play this piece of music together.

Good luck!

ONDURDUPOORDOOR is played by 1, 2, 3 or 4 musicians, each of them representing a cardinal direction of a compass. The colors of your part match the corresponding colors of a scaffolding pipe.

You can even be accompanied by your smartphone.

Search on YOUTUBE: ONDURDUPOORDOOR and play along with the karaoke track.

The composer himself will count you down!

NOORD is the simplest part.

At first, everyone plays the same thing: after two long notes, you play all the pipes in turn, four and a half times back and forth, from left to right and back. And finally, another two long notes.

NOORD then starts again. Four times the same pattern!

Ending with one long note ......

SOUTH is almost as simple.

At first, everyone plays the same: after two long notes, you play all the pipes in turn, four and a half times back and forth, from left to right and back. Then again two long notes.

In the second and third time around, SOUTH waits 6 counts and then plays the same as before.

The fourth and last time, everyone plays the same as the first time.

Ending with one long note ......

EAST and WEST are difficult parts.

At first, everyone plays the same: after two long notes, you play all the pipes in turn four and a half times back and forth, from left to right and back. Then again two long notes.

Then there are two 'rounds' with an individual part for EAST and WEST. You have to be able to read a little rhythm.

The fourth and last time around, everyone plays the same as the first time.

Ending with one long note ......
