At the Watergate

From frail Finnish rock musician to tough French dancer: during the Ascension weekend in 2018 some 6,000 young musicians and dancers from all over Europe will come to Sneek for At the Watergate. After a spectacular opening event on Wednesday evening, two days full of freely accessible performances follow. From symphonic, chamber and choir music to jazz, pop and rock.

Music from 23 countries

Pupils from music schools from around 23 countries can show their best in theaters, churches, on the water and outdoor stages in Sneek and surrounding places.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, music school students from Súdwest Fryslân and Germany warm up the city during the pre-festival. On Wednesday evening the spectacular opening event takes place, obviously right in front of the iconic Waterpoort. Then follow two days full of freely accessible performances. From symphonic, chamber and choir music to jazz, pop and rock, inside and outside, programmed but also spontaneously on the street. On Friday afternoon, the Noord Nederlands Orkest and percussion act Percossa will give an outdoor concert on the Martiniplein, the atmospheric festival heart. That is also the place for the closing ceremony, which changes seamlessly into the Friday night of Kleintje Sneekweek!
