STO jazz Orchestra
The STO jazz orchestra (Strezinsky tanecni orchestr in czech) was founded in 2003. The band leader is a saxophone player Tomáš Antonín Mucha. He has been the leader from the beggining, but his friend and a piano player Mgr. Radek Skerik helped him bring the orchestra to life. With 7 people in the beggining, the orchestra has grown since to an incredible number of 33 musicians, who play in the orchestra today. Since it´s functioning, more than 120 students of ZUS Strezina (which is a music school in Hradec Kralove, Czech republic) came through the band. The orchestra has played about 200 concerts, it also had success in the contest of jazz and dance orchestras, it organised a summer camp called Srumec in Chlumec nad Cidlinou and a jazz and rock bands festival called POPShow (it´s summer version is now called Opendwoor). They went to play abroad many times (for example to the USA, Germany, Italy or Poland) and it was always a success. They cooperated with many stars of the czech jazz scene, such as Jiri Stivin, Jana Koubkova or Karel Hala, the bands -123 minut, Jazz Efterrätt and the orchestras Mlady Tynistsky Bigband, Melody brass or Big band Aldis. The repertoire consists mainly of popular songs arranged in a swing style, but they also play jazz standarts, funky and rock arrangements, latin music and movie music. Tomas Antonin Mucha - born on the 18th of February, 1977, he studied playing the bassoon at the Pardubice Conservatory and he has learned jazz saxophone playing from eminent saxophonist Martin Plachy in Prag.
