The CAM Orchestra is made up of students and few members of the staff from the music school “Centro Attività Musicale” in Empoli (Italy). The teachers involved were previously student members of the group themselves, and now play alongside the younger musicians to help them develop their skills in the orchestral environment.
The Orchestra consists of wind, string and percussion and the sound is enriched by other instruments not normally found in an ensemble of this type such as saxophones, bass guitar and drums. The repertoire ranges from classical music to soundtracks, rock and pop music and original piece. The CAM Orchestra has previously represented the school at the European Youth Music Festival in Trondheim, Budapest, Linz, Rimini and San Sebastian.
In addition to performing at local and regional events, the Orchestra has been involved with number of other musical projects: Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” (2009); “Come eravamo” (“How we were”), a play with live music about local and national events in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s; “Concerto for saw and orchestra” (2012); “Pierino!!! E il lupe??”, an original theatrical production based on the story of Peter and the Wolf, with the music of Prokofiev (2013).
