Ad Libitum Orchestra
The Ad libitum orchestra was created in 2008. The former string orchestra became a mixed one. The orchestra started playing very different genres of music and added film soundtracks and pop music to the classical repertoire. It also specialized in solo pieces with the accompaniment of the orchestra. It holds concerts for schools, solo concerts, and as a matter of course performs in Christmas and end of the year concerts of ZUŠ Ostrov (The School of Arts Ostrov). The orchestra represented ZUŠ Ostrov in Stolberg, Germany, festival Eurofest in Rastatt and a gala concert in Lázně III (Spa III) in Karlovy Vary, which is where the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra is based. When the orchestra was formed, most of the players were high school students. As the time went on, they became university students and nowadays even working as young adults. Despite this, the passion and will to play was still present. The students drove to orchestra practice from Prague, Pilsen, Litomyšl etc. That is why regular Friday practice moved to the weekends. The orchestra managed to play very complicated, professional pieces. The orchestra in this cast decided to end its career in 2015. In 2016, the orchestra formed a new company of players under the name of Ad libitum - junior, where the new, younger players carry on with the same enthusiasm and will to play.
